Legal billing guidelines and LEDES

Carriers on the VIP network review outside counsel invoices against their billing guidelines. Invoices are accepted in LEDES 1998B format with UTBMS task and activity codes.

Common reasons a line is flagged: block billing, vague descriptions, rates above the approved rate, and staffing that isn't approved for the matter. Ask the carrier's litigation manager for the guideline version that applies to your matters.
